Hailing from the Big Apple, Rachel established her modeling career in one of the toughest markets. She’s now on the west coast, signed with Otto Models and also working on styling and design. Check her out below.
Say hello to Rachel:
Where are you from? Where have you been?
I grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey; only a short train ride from NYC. As a young adult, I did a lot of traveling. I’ve been through Europe, South America, and a lot of other random places.
What’s your favorite place in the world?
I can honestly say that I don’t have a favorite place. Every place is different and beautiful in it’s own unique way. Right now, Los Angeles is home for me, so it’s definitely a special place in my heart. Another place I’ve been going to since I was a kid is Fort Myers, FL – A lot of good memories there.
Who is your biggest fashion influence?
My style has always just been a reflection of who I am. I’m a really laid-back person, and I think that shows in my style of work. As far as an influence – I really just gain inspiration from things that I see on a daily basis. With that being said, Kate Moss has always been someone in the industry that I look up to.
Tell us about your career. How did you get into it?
I was walking through the mall one day and this scout came up to me asking me to sign up. As a not-so naive teenager, it didn’t take me long to realize that it was completely bogus. However, that was enough motivation for me to start going to go-sees in NYC and sign with an agency for five years. Moving to Los Angeles, I signed with Otto Models.
Do you have any projects you’d like to show off?
Aside from being in front of the camera, fashion is a huge passion of mine. Definitely expect a lot more styling and design projects from me in the near future.
What was the moment you decided to get into modeling?
When I was younger, everyone would always stop me to say that my hair was really special and that “people pay hundreds of dollars for that color.” I used to get really tired of it, but one day, I just started to embrace it and decided to take it somewhere.
Modeling is very competitive. How do you stand out?
Always be the best version of yourself. That’s one thing nobody can really take from you, and it will take you far.
Who has had the biggest influence on your modeling career?
I just want to give a big shout out to my parents on this one. There was a large portion of my career where I was too young to travel into New York by myself – my mom really put herself on the line as a working parent to make sure I got to where I needed to be. As for my dad, he always gave me his support no matter what.
What are the top 3 tips you have for aspiring models?
Be SAFE and AWARE. Don’t let anyone force you into anything.
Let your real personality shine through, and have FUN.
Don’t let anyone discourage you – know that you need to have tough skin in this industry.
If you could model anywhere in the world where would you go?
Definitely somewhere in Europe. I just enjoy the style of life there.
What’s something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t?
I want to always be able to travel and have a closet with clothes from all different cities and areas of the world.
