Say hello to Khoren:
Where are you from? Where have you been?
I am from Jamaica. I grew up in a town called Mandeville in the parish of Manchester. I absolutely love traveling. I have been to Mexico, London, South Africa, Zanzibar, Brazil, and about ten states.
How would you describe your visual style?
My visual style is grounded in a more natural look to the model, but I recently have been playing around more with split toning to add that extra vibe to my photos.
How do you find your inspiration?
I get inspired from a lot of sources – magazines, billboards, traveling, movies, and a ton from the Instagram community. I honestly can get inspired from anything – the creativity never stops.
You have a background in Finance, but left that industry to pursue the arts. Tell us more about that decision.
I grew up loving math and science. I actually wanted to be a doctor for most of my life, but somehow ended up here, and I couldn’t be happier. I still enjoy finance and actually want to start my own business in the future, to combine both my analytical and creative skills.
What types of photography do you do?
I am interested in portrait, lifestyle, glamour, and travel photography. I want to say portrait is my favorite type of photography, because I enjoy connecting with people. I prefer the one-on-one conversations, learning new things and sharing stories. But if I could travel and continue doing portrait photography, that would be the dream.
What has been your biggest setback as a photographer?
I think the hardest part of my photography journey has just been figuring out everything on the fly. Learning how to set-up meetings and shoots, standing up for yourself to not get taken advantage of, and not setting unrealistic expectations of yourself. If you can think of everything as a learning experience, then it’s easy to keep going.
You recently collaborated with Nayuri – can you tell us about the premise of the shoot?
In my shoot with Nayuri, we wanted to capture a sexy, glamour-esque look against the backdrop of the outdoors. We drove up to Eaton Canyon and had a cool shoot. We also got locked inside the park gate, haha.
What will you be doing five years from now?
Five years from now, I will be traveling between Los Angeles, New York, and Jamaica to shoot clients in all three places. By then, I will also hope to have started my own company.
